Little is known about author Alice Higgins, but Thomas Babbit Lamb (1896–1988), an industrial designer as well as children's book illustrator, was an important contributor to Universal Design. He became known as the "Handle Man", known for redesigning crutches to better serve wounded soldiers returning from WWII and other innovations in consumer products.
