INTRODUCTION
"The water people, the creatures who live in oceans, lakes and rivers, do not look like us, the land people. Yet in some ways many of them do look like animals upon the land, or things we often see, or make or use.
"For many years the land people have been naming the water people after these things. This book will show why their names were chosen, and tell you other things about them.

Bronson sets up comparisons between water and land people and things to explain both the differences and commonalities, like sea horse and land horses, catfish and cats, hogfish, porkfish, gruntfish and pigs, hammerheads and hammers. Beautiful early 20th century illustration!
Artist Wilfrid Swancourt Bronson (1894 - 1985) specialized in natural history and animal life, notably the variety of sea life beautifully rendered in Water People.

Condition*: Very Good. Lacks dust jacket, as issued. Blue cover w/ gilt lettering: Cover is loosening at the spine but textblock is tight and intact; light soiling; corners slightly bumped; fading along the spine and top of front cover; narrow stripe on back cover; dampstain on inside fore edges, front and back. Pages are lightly tanned around edges, with discoloration along hinges of title page and page 103. Interior pages are clean, undamaged, and complete.
