His Version of It by Paul Leicester Ford - 1905 First Edition - Antique Book, Horses, Washington DC, 1900s

Sorry, this item has sold.

1905 deluxe reprint of His Version of It, as told by Reveille the horse, by Paul Leicester Ford.

Written by Paul Leicester Ford. Illustrated by Henry Hutt. Decorations by Theodore B. Hapgood. October, 1905 edition. Dood, Mead & Company, New York.

"She's a darling!" exclaimed the bay mare, between munches of the big red apple.

"That's just what she is!" responded the off carriage-horse; and then, as part of his apple fell to the floor, he added fretfully:

"I do wish, Lassie, that you girls wouldn't talk to a fellow when he's doing something! You've made me lose half my apple!"

That's Reveille speaking to his fellow horses, before he before he begins the tale of two lovers and the bumpy start to their budding romance set in Washington, D.C. during the late 1800s.

A lovely book, outside and in; each page, made of heavy paperstock, is framed in a classic black border and pale rose-colored decoration.

Paul Leicester Ford (1865 - 1902) was an American author of several popular novels but is remembered most as a biographer, notably for The Writings of Thomas Jefferson, "still regarded as one of the monuments of American historical scholarship".
