CHAPTER I - PERCY
"The snake-haired ladies were starting to annoy Percy.
"They should have died three days ago when he dropped a crate of bowling balls on them at the Napa Bargain Mart. They should have died two days ago when he ran over them with a police car in Martinez. They definitely should have died this morning when he cut off their heads in Tilden Park.
"No matter how many times Percy killed them and watched them crumble to powder, they just kept re-forming like large evil dust bunnies. He couldn't even seem to outrun them."
The Son of Neptune is the high-velocity, critically acclaimed second entry in Rick Riordan's bestselling Heroes of Olympus series—the expansive saga where Greek and Roman demigods must unite to thwart the awakening of the earth goddess, Gaea. The adventure finds the iconic hero Percy Jackson in a state of absolute crisis. Stripped of his memories by Hera and suffering from a persistent mental fog, Percy wanders the wilderness armed only with a mystical pen that transforms into a sword. Guided by the wolf goddess Lupa, he stumbles into Camp Jupiter, a militaristic sanctuary for Roman half-bloods. Alongside his new companions Hazel and Frank, Percy must navigate unfamiliar Roman rituals and embark on a desperate quest to Alaska to free Thanatos, the god of death.
Riordan's blend of urban absurdity, cinematic pacing, and deep Roman lore makes this first edition an essential acquisition for fans of the Camp Half-Blood universe.
Rick Riordan (1964 – Present): Before becoming a full-time novelist, Riordan spent fifteen years teaching English and history at middle schools in Texas and California, an immersion that inspired his gift for translating ancient legends into high-interest, fast-moving fiction for modern teens. He achieved literary success as the creator of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians universe, an intellectual property that has sold over thirty million copies in the United States alone and been translated into forty-two languages. Riordan's books are enjoyed for their quick-witted humor, diverse character casts, and educational value.
