John Steinbeck (1902 - 1968) was one of America's great writers, author of The Dustbowl Trilogy: Dubious Battle, Of Mice and Men, and The Grapes of Wrath, and Cannery Row, East of Eden, Travels with Charlie, and many short stories, and a winner of the Nobel Prize in literature.
John Wesley Dennis (1903 - 1966) was an American illustrator remembered for his artwork for Black Beauty and The Red Pony, as well as his collaboration with Marguerite Henry on fifteen children's books about horses, including Misty of Chincoteague, Brighty of the Grand Canyon, Black Gold, and Stormy, Misty's Foal.
