CHAPTER I - JASON
"Even before he got electrocuted, Jason was having a rotten day.
"He woke in the backseat of a school bus, not sure where he was, holding hands with a girl he didn't know. That wasn't necessarily the rotten part. The girl was cute, but he couldn't figure out who she was or what he was doing there. He sat up and rubbed his eyes, trying to think.
"A few dozen kids sprawled in the seats in front of him, listening to iPods, talking, or sleeping. They all looked around his age...fifteen? Sixteen? Okay, that was scary. He didn't know his own age."
The Lost Hero is the high-octane launchpad for Rick Riordan's bestselling Heroes of Olympus series—the globally beloved saga where Greek and Roman demigods must reluctantly team up to conquer a rising, vengeful Gaea. The story begins when fifteen-year-old Jason wakes up with amnesia in the backseat of a school bus on a field trip. He is holding hands with a girl named Piper whom he doesn't recognize, and his supposed best friend is a wisecracking kid named Leo—yet Jason has no memory of his school, his friends, or even his own age. When a sudden, supernatural storm strikes the Grand Canyon, Jason instinctively wields a magical gold coin that transforms into a sword, setting the trio on a perilous path toward Camp Half-Blood, the prophecy of the Seven, and the frantic search for a missing demigod named Percy Jackson.
Featuring stunning, evocative cover illustrations by artist John Rocco, the story weaves Roman military traditions into a modern landscape. It stands as a must-have volume for YA speculative fiction enthusiasts.
Rick Riordan (1964 – Present): Before pursuing writing full-time, Riordan spent fifteen years teaching English and history at middle schools in Texas and California—an immersive classroom career that shaped his rare gift for translating ancient legends into highly accessible, fast-moving fiction for modern teens. He achieved literary success as the creator of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians universe, expanding his storytelling to span millions of copies sold across forty-two languages. Riordan's books are highly regarded for their quick-witted humor, diverse character representation, and educational value.
