Every culture has a Cinderella story, and the earliest known version dates back nearly 2000 years to a Greek story about a Greek slave girl who marries the king of Egypt. The version we know and love today is descended from "Cendrillon", written in 1697 by French author Charles Perrault, who added the fairy godmother, the pumpkin, and the glass slipper. In 1950, Walt Disney transformed Perrault's fairy tale into the movie, "Cinderella".
