What fun! In The Game of Triumphs, set in London, Cat and friends discover the alternative universe of the Arcanum, in which if you play your Tarot cards right you can win prizes and fulfill any wish. The four teenagers defeat the cruel rulers of the game and in the process of conjuring their wishes set the Fool loose from prison, believing they've done a good thing. In Master of Misrule, they learn that they've been betrayed. According to the rules of the game, once freed the Fool becomes The Master of Misrule, who brings chaos to the Arcanum and threatens our own world.
The Master of Misrule is a continuation of The Game of Triumphs rather than a sequel, so you'll want to have both books.
According to her Goodreads bio, Laura Powell grew up in rural Wales and now lives in West London. She wrote her first book while studying Classics at Oxford and worked in publishing for five years before leaving to concentrate on her writing.
