English novelist Anna Sewell (1820 - 1878) gave Black Beauty a voice in telling his autobiography, the life of a horse in 19th C. London. She was unwell during the last several years of her life and died months after her novel was published. Black Beauty became one of the ten best-selling children's books of all time.
