Walter de la Mare (1873-1956) was a poet and novelist whose work is recognized and appreciated for imagination and ingenuity in use of language, from poetry and horror stories to children's literature. He was awarded a Carnegie Medal for Collected Stories for Children, the first short story collection to receive the award. Peacock Pie has been in continuous print since its publication in 1913.
Louise Brierley's artwork is lovely, and captures the watercolor imagery of de la Mare's prose.
