First edition of Charlie Brown's All Stars by Charles Schulz. In one of the most beloved of all the Peanuts books, team manager Charlie Brown demonstrates the value of loyalty to friends, and showing up in the rain.
Written and illustrated by Charles M. Schulz. First edition, 1966. United Features Syndicate, Inc. Produced in association with Lee Mendelson - Bill Mendelson TV Production. The World Publishing Company. A Read Aloud and Easy Reading Program Selection.
The 1960s are considered the Golden Age of the Peanuts franchise, when creator Charles M. Schulz added several classic characters: Peppermint Patty, Snoopy as the "World War One Flying Ace", Frieda with her "naturally curly hair", and Franklin, an African-American boy who Charlie befriends at the beach.
One of the most-admired characteristics of Schulz's work was his ability to gently and persuasively engage in social commentary of the time.

From Wikipedia:
"Schulz did not explicitly address racial and gender equality issues so much as assume them to be self-evident. Peppermint Patty's athletic skill and self-confidence is simply taken for granted, for example, as is Franklin's presence in a racially integrated school and neighborhood. ... The fact that Charlie Brown's baseball team had three girls was also at least ten years ahead of its time."
In All Stars, Charlie Brown's team is losing badly. If only they had uniforms like the other teams. Team manager Charlie Brown goes in search of a sponsor and recruits Hennessy Hardware, and Mr. Hennessy promises to outfit the whole team. "HOORAY!", they all shouted. "Charlie Brown has finally done it!" But when Mr. Hennessy tells Charlie that Snoopy and the girls can't be on the team, Charlie stands by his friends and declines the offer. As he breaks the bad news to the team, he can't bring himself to tell them why, and walks away. "YOU BLOCKHEAD! You can't do anything right!" Linus sets them straight and they chip in to make a uniform just for Charlie...out of Linus's blanket. Their gesture brings a tear to Charlie's eye, until game day, when it rains.
The first Peanuts TV special, A Charlie Brown Christmas, which aired in 1965, was so successful it was followed by Charlie Brown's All Stars the following year and It's A Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.
