A grandfather tells his grandson and granddaughter a tall tale about a town named Chewandswallow, where food falls from the sky like rain and daily menus are announced like weather reports.
"Dinner one night consisted of lamb chops, becoming heavy at times with occassional ketchup. Periods of peas and baked potatoes were followed by gradual clearing, with a wonderful Jell-O setting in the west."
When the weather goes haywire and dumps pancakes and syrup on the town, and tomato tornados soak the countryside, the townspeople build boats from PB&Js and sail away to find a safer place to start over. They settle in a coast town where the biggest adjustment is having to shop for food and store their perishables in a refrigerator.
