In the gripping animal adventure novel Wolf, writer Valerie Hobbs crafts a moving, suspenseful tale about aging, devotion, and the unyielding sense of duty. Jack, a loyal, hard-working border collie, has finally found a secure home and true purpose working on a peaceful farm. Jack takes immense pride in his daily responsibilities, working tirelessly to keep a vulnerable flock of sheep safe from roaming coyotes while helping to train the farm's young pups to follow in his pawsteps. However, the peaceful rhythm of his pastoral life is completely shattered when two sheep mysteriously vanish in broad daylight.
Plagued by self-doubt, the aging border collie begins to worry if he is simply getting too old for the demanding job. Despite his fears, Jack remains determined not to disappoint his beloved companion, Luke—a young boy who believes that Jack is the smartest, fastest dog in the world. The emotional stakes escalate when Luke and Jack discover that a dangerous, rabid wolf is actively stalking the remaining sheep, forcing Jack to confront the ultimate test of his courage and physical limits. An excellent read-aloud story for families to share during evening storytimes.
