Charles Perrault is the father of Mother Goose. In 1695, 200 years before the Brothers Grimm, he wrote, in modern French prose, a book of classic fairy tales for his children to serve as "Tales and Stories of the Past with Morals", which we know as "Tales of Mother Goose". In these early tales, the endings are rarely as happy as Disney portrays. Little Red Riding Hood cautions girls to beware of the seemingly handsome, beguiling Wolf who charms ladies out of their good sense.
