The Favershams by Roy Gerrard - First Edition Children's Book - Vintage Child Book, England, 1980s

Sorry, this item has sold.

First American edition of The Favershams, Roy Gerrard's first picture book tells the story of the Faversham Family of India and Gloucestershire.

Written and illustrated by Roy Gerrard. 1983, first American edition, first printing. Farrar, Strauss, Giroux, publishers. (First published in the UK, 1982, by Victor Gollancz.)

"One day in eighteen fifty-one
These parents posed beside their son.
The son (that's him inside the pram)
was Charles Augustus Faversham,
and now this book relates the life
of Charles Augustus and his wife."

The story of Charles Augustus and Amelia Gwen tells of his military service, their meeting, marriage and honeymoon climbing the Swiss Alps, their lives in India, their return to Gloucestershire, the births of their son and daughter, their romantic get-aways, and their comfortable old age.

I've enjoyed the late Roy Gerrard's unique and charming books since I first read Rosie and The Rustlers. The Favershams was his first book and its' success encouraged many more, including Mik's Mammoth, Sir Cedric, Sir Francis Drake, and Wagons West!

Fun "Botero" like drawings of a historical family. Cute book to read to children about a true event. Colorful drawings.
