The book begins, "I wanted you more than you ever will know, so I sent love to follow wherever you go", and shows a boy riding a hippopotamus across a watering hole in an expansive grassy plain. "It's high as you wish it. It's quick as an elf. You'll never outgrow it...it stretches itself."
Looking at Tillman's pictures, I have the feeling of watching children from the kitchen window, playing in the backyard, studying a big bug or immersed in another dimension. I smile, remembering, knowing where they are.
