The London Stage was published in four volumes from 1824 - 1827 by The Theater Royal, known as Drury Lane.
Drury Lane has played to audiences in the same spot in Covent Garden, if not the same building, since 1663. The fourth and last theater was built in 1812, the previous three having burned down.
This fourth volume holds the acting copies, or scripts, for 52 plays performed by William Macready, Mrs. Warde, George Bartley, Benjamin Wrench, Miss Paton, Eliza Chester, and Julia Glover.

Condition: Good. Lacks dust jacket, as issued. Quarter-bound marbled green cover boards with gilt-edged brown leather backstrip and corners: Spine cover is missing, which has loosened the front cover, though text block is square and tight; rubbing on the front and back; moderate wear along all edges, including head and tail of the spine; corners are bumped, with discoloration from adhesive at the edges. Text block is top stained. Marbled end pages and fly leaves are discolored at the corners from adhesive from the covers' leather corners. Two previous owner's names on blank page before title page, the oldest located in Langley, Buckinghamshire (now Berkshire), England, dated 1886. Marginalia in pencil. Light foxing to front and back fly leaves, frontispiece, title page, and occasional pages throughout. Pages are undamaged and complete.
