Theodor Seuss Geisel, "Dr. Seuss", (1904 - 1991) was an American writer and cartoonist who created more than 60 books for children. He began his career as an illustrator and advertiser, but soon found his passion for writing and drawing whimsical characters and stories. Some of his most famous books are Horton Hears a Who, The Cat in the Hat, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Green Eggs and Ham, The Lorax, and Oh, the Places You'll Go! He won many awards for his work, including a Pulitzer Prize Special Citation in 1984.

Dust jacket: On the front, large closed tear across the cover, dampstain in the illustration, creased at top right corner, small open tears at upper left and lower right corners, small closed tear and chipping at upper edge, scratches along lower edge; on the back, large closed tear across upper right quadrant, creasing with several small closed tears and chipping along the upper edge, scratch across the illustration; two small open tears, four small closed tears, and creasing on the spine; bumped at head and tail of the spine; bumped at the corners. Illustrated red cover boards: Moderate wear along lower edge; small nicks along upper edge; bumped at corners and head and tail of the spine. Gift inscription on front fly leaf. Pages are clean, undamaged, and complete.
