Cowboys by Gail Gardner

"Many Arizona cattlemen have, at one time or another, received letters from young eastern men who wanted to come West and be cowboys. These lads see a lot of movies and read a lot of pulp magazines and get the idea that life in the West is all romance and excitement. It never seems to occur to them that a cowboy, if he is worth his hire, must be competent in half-a-dozen or so widely different skills, none of which can be learned out of books, nor without considerable practical experience."

A Teacher of 1906
As told by Virgie Robbins and Catherine Bozarth
to Learah Cooper Morgan

"Our story is about a teacher who entered the teaching profession in Yavapai County forty-eight years ago - known to many in Arizona as Virgie Hite Robbins.

"Prescott and Yavapai County in the year 1906 were interesting and wonderful to Virgie Hite when she, a girl of eighteen, only recently graduated from Tecumseh, Nebraska High School, qualified herself for a teaching position in the public schools."

Rodeo
by Johnnie Fain and Learah Cooper Morgan and Charles E. Mills

"If one were to record the story of rodeo, the names of Arizona, Yavapai and Prescott would inevitably be prominent in the record. Also, the writer would need to understand the history behind rodeo and rodeo's relationship cattle-raising and the development of a frontier; and he would, likewise, need to know the nature and character of cowboys. A writer of note, Clifford P. Westermeier, has with true understand said, 'American rodeo dramatizes the phenomenal development of an unknown country and the important cattle-raising industry... The genius of the cowboy made this movement possible. ..."

Inscription dated 1955 on the Dedication page from rancher and Arizona State Senator Charles H. "Chick" Orme, owner of the Quarter Circle V Bar ranch and founder of the Orme School, to Martha Williams, secretary to the Judiciary Committee of the Arizona State Senate.
