Thomas Craven (1888 - 1969) was an American author, critic, and lecturer known for his influential role in promoting American Regionalist painters such as Thomas Hart Benton, John Steuart Curry, and Grant Wood. Included among his most popular works are Men of Art and Modern Art: The Men, the Movements, the Meaning. Craven's writing was characterized by its directness and often caustic commentary, earning him the reputation as the "leading decrier of the School of Paris." Craven contributed essays and critiques to magazines and journals, and was the art critic for the New York American.
