"If my life was a fairy tale and I was writing a book about it, I'd start with, 'Once upon a time there were two boys called Darren and Steve...' But my life's a horror story, so if I were to write about it, I'd have to begin with something like this instead:

"Evil has a name - Steve Leopard."

In Sons of Destiny, the twelfth and final installment of the Cirque du Freak series, author Darren Shan orchestrates a brilliant grand finale that brings his vampire epic full circle. The story balances on a knife's edge as Darren reflects on the simple boyhood origins of his dark journey, which began with his childhood companion Steve Leopard. However, the past is dead, and boyhood friendships have transformed into pure horror, as Darren must brace himself for a final, apocalyptic confrontation with Steve, who has become the embodiment of pure evil.

The stakes soar past simple survival as a web of moral dilemmas and cosmic machinations unravels around the two adversaries. Darren is forced to confront the revelation that his entire life, his sacrifices, and his war against Steve were merely engineered moves on a grand chessboard managed by the sinister, puppeteering Mr. Tiny. To rewrite history, break the cycle of destiny, and rescue humanity from a future of ashes, Darren must make the ultimate sacrifice—risking not just his life, but his very soul.
