$75.00

Written by Thomas Campion. First edition thus, 1895. J. M. Dent & Co. Aldine House, London.

"Night as well as brightest day hath her delight,
Let us then with mirth and Musicke decke the night.
Never did glad day such store of joy to night bequeath:
Her Starres then adore, both in Heav'n, and here beneath."

Thomas Campion (1567 - 1620) was an English poet, composer, and physician, educated at Cambridge and Gray's Inn, though he never practiced law. He composed over a hundred lute songs and masques for dancing, and wrote an authoritative technical treatise on music. Campion earned his medical degree from the University of Caen in 1605 and practiced medicine until his death. His literary works include "A Booke of Ayres," co-written with Philip Rosseter in 1601, and his 1602 treatise "Observations in the Art of English Poesie," where he advocated for unrhymed verse.

The book's original owner was A. H. Plumb, member of a prominent Kansas family that in the 1920s donated their home, Plumb Place, to the YWCA as a home for women.
