We were riding home from New York City on the subway train, discussing books, although we don't know why, when the idea came to us to write a book. At Jamaica we decided on a squirrel and the following day on Crunch. The book didn't take long to write and was fun all the way through..."

The girls made the local paper - The Brooklyn Daily Eagle, Sept 25, 1939 - when their book was published.

Kurt Wiese (1887 - 1974) was a German-born illustrator of more than 300 books and author of 20 children's books. His experiences in China, Australia, and Brazil enriched his illustrations, bringing a unique perspective to his works, such as the beloved "Bambi: A Life in the Woods" and the "Freddy the Pig" series. Wiese earned multiple awards, including Newbery and Caldecott Honors.

Dust jacket: Wear along upper and lower edges, with small closed tears front and back; on the front, black marks at upper edge, open tear at lower edge; on the back, mild fading around the edges and several very small white scuffs and scratches; bumped at the corners, bumped and chipped at head and tail of the spine.
