The Magic Pudding
Being The Adventures of Bunyip Bluegum and His Friends
Bill Barnacle & San Sawnoff
Front Flap
"In 1918, because of an argument with a literary critic who thought children were interested in fairies, whereas Norman Lindsay thought they preferred food, The Magic Pudding was first cooked. Thousands of children (and, just quietly, their parents) have been relishing it ever since.
The Pudding, called Albert, a magic, bad-tempered steak and kidney pudding, reconstitutes itself after being eaten, to be eaten again and again. The story follows the owners' efforts to protect him against the pudding thieves, a possum called Patrick and Watkin the wombat. The owners are friends Bill Barnacle, a sailor, and San Sawnoff, an Emperor penguin, founders of the Noble Society of Pudding Owners, and their newest member, Bunyip Bluegum, a koala.
Norman Lindsay (1879–1969) was an Australian artist; an etcher, sculptor, writer, art critic, and cartoonist. His most notable work was The Magic Pudding, a classic of Australian children's literature, and his political cartoons in "The Bulletin".
