Tawny Scrawny Lion, 1954 Little Golden Book by Kathryn Jackson and Gustaf Tenggren.

$16.00

Written by Kathryn Jackson. Illustrated by Gustaf Tenggren. #138, "B" edition, 1954. Simon and Schuster. New York.

"Once there was a tawny, scrawny, hungry lion who never could get enough to eat.

"He chased monkeys on Monday
Kangaroos on Tuesday
Zebras on Wednesday
Bears on Thursday
Camels on Friday
and on Saturday, elephants!"

Until a cheery, fat little rabbit invited the lion home for a dinner of delicious carrot stew.

Kathryn Jackson (1907 - 1985) wrote hundreds of books for Golden Books, many co-authored with her husband, Byron.

Gustaf Tenggren (1896 - 1970), born in Sweden, was an illustrator and animator known for combining Scandinavian folklore with a fairy-tale style influenced by Arthur Rackham. Tenggren played a pivotal role at The Walt Disney Company during the Golden Age of American animation, contributing to classics such as "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" and "Pinocchio." After leaving Disney, he illustrated for Little Golden Books, creating images for iconic stories like "The Poky Little Puppy," which remains the best-selling children's book in English to this day.
