I Remember Grandpa, a picture book by Truman Capote and Barry Moser. 1987 edition.

$18.00

Written by Truman Capote. Illustrated by Barry Moser. Second edition, 1987. Peachtree Publishers Ltd.

Truman Capote's story about Bobby, a young West Virginia farm boy whose family moves to the city in Virgina, for a better education for him and a better job for his father, was written in 1946 as a gift for his aunt, and was rediscovered in 1984.

"One of the saddest days of my life was when I left my boyhood home in the foothills of the West Virginia Allegheny Mountains. My Ma and Pa and I lived with my Grandma and Grandpa in a little wooden cottage about a mile from the nearest road and thirty miles from the nearest town. Our home had been handed down from generation to generation, or so my Grandpa told me. We had always been one family but because of my coming of school age, my Pa decided, for all of us, to move to Virginia, somewhere over the mountains, and leave Grandpa and Grandma in the care of a new worker of our land...."

Truman Capote (1924 - 1985), born in New Orleans, was a prominent American novelist, short-story writer, and playwright. He is best known as the author of "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and the pioneering true crime novel "In Cold Blood." Capote's early writings contributed to the Southern Gothic tradition, but he later adopted a more journalistic style. His vivid narratives and unique voice left a lasting impact on American literature.
