"Every morning as the sun rose like a golden mirror over Mount Fuji, Crane would go out to the pond to count her fish, singing:

"How I love my fine, fat fishes,
Divey, dippy, splashy, splishy,
Fish is my favorite breakfast dishy,
Two, four, six, eight fish."

"But, - "ARARE! - on this morning, crane is not happy for someone has stolen her fish! It looks like the work of that sly fox, Dorobo the Dangerous."

Marcia Vaughan (1951 - ) was a school librarian whose work inspired a writing career. Her first book, Wombat Stew, debuted in 1984. Vaughan's work often reflects her diverse interests, from beachcombing to baking, and her travels, which have taken her from Washington state to the Cook Islands and Australia. Her books include Irena's Jars of Secrets, Abbie Against The Storm, Up the Learning Tree, Pirates Night Before Christmas, and Whistling Dixie, an American Library Association Notable Children's Book.

Kazuko G. Stone (1946 - 2022) was born in Tokyo, Japan and immigrated to the US in 1974. She lived in New York City for over 40 years, and wrote and illustrated over three dozen children's books. Cool Melons Turn to Frogs, a book of Haikus, was an ALA Notable Children's Book (1999). Other books: Ten Oni Drummers, Goodnight Twinklegator, Aliga Saves the Stars, and Butterfly's Dream.
