The Thief of Bagdad
"Children from six to sixty, the world over, will find no story more imaginatively stimulating than The Thief of Bagdad, whether they read it as a literary extract from The Arabian Nights or see the film just produced. The story contains every element to stir the minds and hearts of its legion of readers old and new. Ahmad, its adventuresome hero, is the fulfillment of over younger's dream. ...
"Abu, the little thief, steads to relive the hunger of others and to promote romance in the universe. He laughs at the world as he does his marvelous tricks of magic. ...
"At heart we are all Abus, and we learn to perform his kind of legerdemain - the kind that gives happiness to mankind."
- Alexander Korda
Sir Alexander Korda (1893 - 1956) was a pioneering Hungarian-born British film director, producer, and screenwriter, founding his own film production studios and film distribution company. Korda's early career began in the European silent film era, where he made significant contributions to the Hungarian film industry. After a brief stint in Hollywood, he moved to Britain in the 1930s, establishing London Films. His production of 'The Private Life of Henry VIII' in 1933 garnered international acclaim, setting a precedent for future British cinema. Korda's legacy includes classics such as 'Rembrandt', 'The Thief of Baghdad', and 'The Third Man'. Notably, in 1942, he became the first filmmaker to be knighted for his contributions to the film industry. Korda's influence extended beyond his films; he was instrumental in developing Britain's Denham Film Studios.
