The Baby
"The August day was nearly done. Slender fingers of light slanted through the forest caressing the yellow wattle and drawing homeward from it the honey-laden bees. Even the small birds as they flicked from bough to bough were touched suddenly with gold before they disappeared again into the shadows.
"No light, however, reached into the nest of Mrs. Glider Possum, cunningly hidden in a deep hollow near the top of a white Manna gum-tree.
"It was a cozy, dome-shaped nest, thickly lined with gum-leaves, and was always beautifully cool and dark. Mrs. Glider thought it was the snuggest in the whole world.
"This afternoon Mrs. Glider's pink nose was twitching with excitement and happiness, for her little baby had just been born."

Veronica Basser (1904 - 1997) was an Australian educator and children's book author. In addition to Bright-Eyes the Glider Possum, her books include Round the Year Verses, The Martins of Montrose, Ponny the Penguin, Glory Bird, and Fria and the Sea Witch.

Condition: Very Good/Good. Dust jacket: On the front, three small closed tears and chipping along the upper and lower edges; on the back, a large open tear and chip at upper edge; chipped and one small closed tear each at the head and tail of the spine; darkening along the spine. Blue cloth cover boards with silver decoration: Light sunning along upper edges. Original bookstore label on front paste down. Pages are clean, undamaged, and complete.
