As we know, that piece of wood, in the hands of master woodworker Geppetto, becomes Pinocchio. What's far less known is that Pinocchio is a very bad puppet, and a very bad boy, not the beloved Pinocchio of the Magic Kingdom. This Illustrated Junior Edition tells the true story of the plucky puppet's misadventures and what he goes through, and puts everybody else through, to be a good boy in the end.
Carlo Collodi (1826 - 1890) was the pen name of Carlo Lorenzini, an Italian author, journalist and humorist who wrote the famous fairy tale novel The Adventures of Pinocchio. He was born in Florence, Tuscany in 1826 and joined the seminary as a young man. He later became involved in the Italian Wars of Independence and founded a satirical newspaper, Il Lampione. He started writing for children in 1861 and published Pinocchio in 1881.
Fritz Kredel (1900 - 1973) was a German-American artist and graphic designer. He fled Germany to the United States in 1938 due to political unrest, and went on to illustrate over 400 books.
