Mary Dillingham Frear (1870 - 1951), born in Hawaii and the granddaughter of missionaries, served as the First Lady of the Territory of Hawaii from 1907 to 1913. A poet and author, her literary contributions include works like "Our Familiar Island Trees" and "Isles of Dreams: Verses." Beyond her writing, she was a dedicated community activist and a regent of the University of Hawaii for two decades. Her legacy extends to her fundraising efforts for the Allied cause during World War II.
Bessie Foster French was a 19th-century artist and member of the New York Art League. She taught art at the Punahou Preparatory School on Oahu. Her brother Samuel P. French served as Principal in 1896.

Red cloth covers with black and white design: Moderate shelf wear; on the front, small white spot and line on the right, and dark spot in illustration, below palm tree, moderate edge wear along upper and lower edges and fore edge; on the back, small dark spot in the upper left corner, light soiling from handling, light wear along upper and lower edges and fore edge; wear and creasing along the spine; moderate bumping at the corners and head and tail of the spine. Name inscribed in pencil on front fly leaf and small closed tear on pg 26 else pages are clean, undamaged, and complete.
