A Further Range, Book Six, a Pulitzer Prize-winning poetry collection by Robert Frost. 1936 first edition.

Written by Robert Frost. First edition, 1936*. Henry Holt and Company. New York.

Waspish

On glossy wires artistically bent,
He draws himself up to his full extent.
His natty wings with self-assurance perk.
His stinging quarters menacingly work.
Poor egotist, he has no way of knowing
But he's as good as anybody going.

This collection of poetry is divided into six parts that explore various themes - nature, relationships, life's impermanence, the human condition - through his distinctive use of language and vivid imagery, metaphors and symbolism. He was awarded the 1937 Pulitzer Prize in Poetry for the collection.

Robert Frost (1874 - 1963) is widely regarded for his realistic depictions of rural life in New England and his mastery of American colloquial speech. He published his first poem, My Butterfly: An Elegy, in 1894 and went on to win four Pulitzer Prizes for his poetry collections. Some of his most famous poems include The Road Not Taken, Mending Wall, Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening, and Fire and Ice. He was also honored with the Congressional Gold Medal and named poet laureate of Vermont.

*According to Henry Holt and Company, Inc: "Prior to 1945 we never used a definite method of indicating a first edition in our books." For a time, beginning in 1945, "First Printing" on the copyright page identified the work as a first edition.

As an issue point, A Further Range is the last work listed on the back panel of the dust jacket. Holt next published Collected Poems of Robert Frost in 1939, and A Witness Tree in 1943.
