Written by Suzanne Collins. First edition, 2010. Scholastic Press.
Part I
"The Ashes"
"I stare down at my shoes, watching as a fine layer of ash settles on the worn leather. This is where the bed I shared with my sister, Prim, stood. Over there was the kitchen table. The bricks of the chimney, which collapsed in a charred heap, provide a point of reference for the rest of the house. How else could I orient myself in this sea of gray?"
Front Flap:
"Katniss Everdeen, girl on fire, has survived, even though her home has been destroyed. Gale has escaped. Katniss's family is safe. Peeta has been captured by the Capitol. District 13 really does exist. There are rebels. There are new Leaders. A revolution is unfolding.
"It is by design that Katniss was rescued from the arena in the cruel and haunting Quarter Quell, and it is by design that she has long been part of the revolution without knowing it. ..."
"The success of the rebellion hinges on Katniss's willingness to be a pawn..."
Suzanne Collins (1962 - ) is an American author and screenwriter, best known for the Hunger Games series: The Hunger Games (2008), Catching Fire (2009), Mockingjay (2010), and The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (2020). Collins began her career in 1991 as a writer for children's television shows. She also wrote a rhyming picture book, When Charlie McButton Lost Power (2005), and a fantasy series for middle-grade readers, The Underland Chronicles (2003-2007). Her inspiration for The Hunger Games came from the Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur, and her father's experiences in war.
