Oliver Goldsmith (1728 - 1774) was a renowned Anglo-Irish writer of wrote novels, poems, plays, and essays. Among his enduring works are The Vicar of Wakefield, a novel about a clergyman and his family; The Deserted Village, a poem that laments threats to traditional rural life; and She Stoops to Conquer, a comedy that mocks the social pretensions of the time.

Condition: Very Good. A well-cared for book. Leather covers: Embossed decoration, front and back; gold title on the spine and front cover; all edges gilt; rubbed at corners, upper and lower edges, and spine. Inside: Original bookseller's label on the front paste down, top left corner; hinge starting to crack at front paste down and fly leaf; sporadic, light foxing else pages are clean, undamaged, and complete.
