Bates wrote the twelve plays contained in this book, with proceeds going to the YWCA. All but one of the plays were previously published in The Women's Press. "The Bonbon Tree" was published in The Churchman as "Santa's Christmas Party" in December, 1917.
Katharine Lee Bates (1859 – 1929) was a respected American educator, author, social reformer, and public speaker, and author of "America the Beautiful". Bates was a graduate of Wellesley College where she would teach English literature until her retirement in 1925, helping develop American literature into an area of study and writing one of the first college textbooks on it. She never married; in her time, women academics who married lost tenure.

Tan cover boards with black decoration w/ tan paper paste down title on the spine: Moderate shelf wear; rubbed along fore edges; bumped at corners; light soiling from handling. Discoloration on first front fly leaf, name written on second fly leaf, pencil mark on page 69, else pages are clean, undamaged, and complete.
