"Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though,
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow."
American poet Robert Frost (1874-1963) is widely regarded for his realistic depictions of rural life in New England and his mastery of American colloquial speech. He published his first poem, "My Butterfly: An Elegy", in 1894 and went on to win four Pulitzer Prizes for his poetry collections. Some of his most famous poems include "The Road Not Taken", "Mending Wall", "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening", and "Fire and Ice". He was also honored with the Congressional Gold Medal and named poet laureate of Vermont.
Susan Jeffers (1942 - 2020) was an award-winning illustrator of more than 45 children's books, including such memorable books as Three Jovial Huntsmen, a Caldecott Honor book and winner of the Golden Apple Award, Brother Eagle, Sister Sky!, The Words of Chief Seattle by Chief Seattle, My Pony, My Chincoteague Pony, and the 1986 adaptation of Black Beauty. Jeffers and artist Rosemary Wells owned an artist studio and collaborated on a variety of projects, including Lassie Come Home, Rachel Field’s Hitty: Her First Hundred Years, and their series about McDuff the dog.
