Cynthia Rylant (1954 - ) is an American author and librarian who has written more than 100 books for children and young adults. Her works include fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and picture books. She was born in West Virginia and spent part of her childhood with her grandparents in the Appalachian region, which influenced many of her stories. She won the Newbery Medal for her novel Missing May and received several other awards and honors for her books.
Nikki McClure is noted for her distinctive paper-cut illustrations inspired by Depression-era Works Progress Administration (WPA) posters. She uses an X-acto knife to carve out her images from a single sheet of black paper, creating striking contrasts between the positive and negative spaces. She has published several books of her art, including calendars, journals, and children's books. She lives and works in Olympia, Washington.
