The Nurnberg Stove, 1910s edition by Louisa de la Ramee, or "Ouida".

Sorry, this item has sold.

Written by Louisa de la Ramee (or Maria Louise Ramé), a.k.a. Ouida. Originally published in 1882. This edition republished prior to 1920, the year the publisher went out of business. The Platt & Peck Co., New York, publishers.

The Nurnberg Stove was first published in 1882 as one of nine stories in Bimbi, Quida's most well-known collection of children's stories. In the story, a German boy, August, is distraught at learning that his father is selling the family's prized stove to pay debts and buy food, and he stows away in it on its journey to the new owner.

Louise de la Ramee (1839 - 1908), a successful and quite colorful English author, used the pen name Ouida, which translated as "Louise" in toddler-speak and became her childhood nickname. Ouida lived in Italy much of her adult life and wrote over 40 novels, children's books, and short story collections.
