A Peter Rabbit story not written or illustrated by Beatrix Potter? Yes, during the early decades of the 20th century, Ms Potter was hacked. Apparently, her publisher, Frederick Warne & Co, failed to secure U.S. copyright protections when they brought her work to the U.S. Publishers, notably Saalfield, and writers like Thornton Burgess, creator of a whole series of Peter Rabbit books, and the Peter Cottontale spin-off, seized on the opportunity to capitalize on Ms Potter's immense popularity in Great Britain.
In this quirky little volume, Peter and his buddy, Sammy Squirrel, pack a picnic and head into the forest, happy-go-lucky until they encounter their friend Ben Beaver and his family. Peter regrets letting one of the beavers talk him into hopping on his back for a ride in the stream, for when a crab nips the beaver's foot, the beaver tips Peter into the water. Peter dries off and he Sammy make it home, no thanks to the Ben Beavers.

Inside: Pencil inscription with initials in ink on front pastedown; small brown spot-on half-title page; small closed tear bottom left of pg 3. Pages are otherwise clean, complete, and undamaged.
