Gertrude & Heathcliffe contains a collection of jokes about two seagulls who have humorous conversations and observations. The book also includes instructions on how to imitate a seagull when telling the jokes. The jokes are based on Red Skelton's popular comedy routine that featured Gertrude and Heathcliffe as his seagull friends.
Red Skelton was an American entertainer best known for his radio and television shows, especially The Red Skelton Show, which ran from 1951 to 1971. He was also a talented pantomimist and clown, and created many memorable characters such as Clem Kadiddlehopper and Sheriff Deadeye. He started his career in vaudeville and later appeared in films and nightclubs.
