Pepita tells the story of Pepita de Oliva, a Spanish dancer who became the mistress of Lionel Sackville-West, the author's grandfather. The novel explores the themes of love, passion, family and identity, as Pepita struggles to balance her humble origins and her glamorous lifestyle. Based on historical sources and personal letters, but also uses fictional elements to create a vivid portrait of Pepita and her times.
Vita Sackville-West (1892 - 1962) was an English author and garden designer who was born at Knole, the ancestral home of her aristocratic family. She was a prolific novelist, poet and journalist, as well as a passionate gardener who created the celebrated Sissinghurst Castle Garden with her husband, Sir Harold Nicolson. She was also known for her unconventional love affairs with women, most notably with Virginia Woolf, who immortalized her as Orlando in her novel of the same name.

Dust jacket: Moderate shelf wear; on the front, scuff in title, creased at upper and lower edges, small closed tear near tail of spine, light rubbing along fore edge; on the back, chipped along upper edge, three small tears at lower edge; spine is moderately faded, front fold is creased. Gold-embossed linen-colored cloth cover boards: Tanning along the grooves. Edge tanning of pages else clean, undamaged, and complete.
