Chapter I
Something in the Air
"Pommes Frites saw it first; a small object shaped like a sausage and about the size of a double magnum of champagne. Its silver body gleamed in the early morning sun as it emerged from the comparative gloom of the Boulevard e la Tour-Maubourg in the seventh arrondissement of Paris and entered the Place de Santiago-du-Chili. Gliding along roof-top level, it disappeared for a moment or two behind some trees, nosed its way slowly and silently along one side of the Place, eventually reappearing outside the Chilean Embassy on the corner of the Avenue de la Motte-Picquet. There it paused in its travels, gaining height momentarily, as though trying to discover what secrets lay behind the facade of the white stone building..."
Monsieur Pamplemousse Aloft by Michael Bond is a humorous and cozy mystery novel featuring France's premier gourmet guide and his faithful canine companion, Pommes Frites. In this book, the ninth in the series, Monsieur Pamplemousse is hired to design a menu for an international dirigible service that aims to celebrate the entente cordiale between France and England. However, he soon finds himself involved in a series of suspicious events involving nuns, circus performers, and old friends. With his wit, charm, and culinary expertise, Monsieur Pamplemousse must solve the mystery and ensure the success of the historic flight. This book is a delightful read for fans of culinary mysteries and light-hearted adventures.
