Dylan Thomas recounts memories of Christmas Day with poetic language and humor. Harper's Bazaar first published the story in 1950 as "A Child's Memories of Christmas in Wales" based on earlier radio talks by Thomas. The illustrations by Edward Ardizzone complement the text with charming watercolor and ink drawings that blend naturalism with the dreamlike quality of Thomas' metaphors.
Dylan Thomas (1914-1953) was a Welsh poet and writer who is best known for his poems "Do not go gentle into that good night" and "And death shall have no dominion", as well as his radio play Under Milk Wood. He started writing poetry as a teenager and published his first collection, 18 Poems, in 1934. He worked for the BBC and as a film scriptwriter during World War II, and became famous for his readings in the United States. Thomas is widely regarded as one of the most influential poets of the 20th century for his original and lyrical use of language.
Edward Ardizzone (1900-1979) was a British children's book illustrator. Of his many books, the Tim series won him the first Kate Greenaway Medal in 1956. He was also a print-maker and a member of the Royal Academy of Arts.
