Leo Tolstoy (1828 - 1920) was a Russian writer regarded as one of the greatest authors of all time. He was born into an aristocratic Russian family and wrote realistic fiction and semi-autobiographical novels, such as War and Peace and Anna Karenina. He also wrote philosophical essays and became a Christian anarchist and pacifist after a moral crisis in the 1870s.
