"What would you like for lunch today, my little cherry blossom?" asked Yoko's mother.
"All my favorite things, please," answered Yoko.
Yoko's mother spread steamed rice on a bamboo mat. She rolled up a secret treasure inside each piece. Then she packed it all in a willow-covered cooler."
Alas, Yoko's school friends spoiled her lunch. Seaweed?! "Yuck-o-rama!" Even the kid who brought squeeze cheese on white.
But their brilliant teacher Mrs. Jenkins comes up with a way to support Yoko and broaden her classmates' horizons. Monday will be International Food Day! Everyone must bring a dish from a different country, and "everyone must try a bit of everything." Sadly, they still don't want to try Yoko's sushi. Except Timothy. Still hungry, and intrigued with the chopsticks, he eats all the crab cones. Yum! On the bus, they plan to push their desks together the next day and open a restaurant. They share tomato sandwiches and dragon rolls, and brownies and green tea ice cream for dessert.
