The young bird's mother encourages her to journey out, away from home, to find her own song. Along the way, she seeks advice from different birds - a crane, an owl, a vulture, pigeons, penguins - but they can't help her, until she meets the crow, who points her in the direction of an island. On arriving, she realizes she's come full circle home, and finds her mother waiting. But when she tries to tell her all that had happened, the words came out in song. The young blue songbird had found her voice.
Vern Kousky is an American author and illustrator of children's books. Some of his books include Otto the Owl Who Loved Poetry, Harold Loves His Woolly Hat, and I See You, Sad Bear. His books have received various awards and recognition: Frostburg State University Children's Literature Centre Book Award, the Parents' Choice Recommended Award, and Brainpickings.org's Seven Loveliest Children's Books of 2017.
