Lilo Rasch-Nagele (1914 - 1978) was a German painter, graphic artist, fashion designer, and book illustrator, and influential within the Stuttgart artists' community. What's striking about her work for this little book is how much more sophisticated Birgit is compared with depictions of American girls of the 1950s.
